Biography
Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez was born in Isnotu, Trujillo State; (Venezuela) on 26 October 1864. Trained hard in a career in medicine at the Central University of Venezuela, received the doctorate on June 29, 1888.
He was known for his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and his church, his humility and simplicity and ardent love for God and neighbor, especially the poor and needy. Much loved by the people who recognized him as an exceptional man.
His outstanding academic record earned him the trust of the National Executive to carry out a mission that led to major research centers in Paris, returning to his farm several chairs and modernized the practice of medicine in Venezuela. He was a founding member of the National Academy of Medicine.
In two attempts to enter the consecrated life opportunities, but providence he had another destination. He died in Caracas on the day of their anniversary graduation as Doctor, as he returned with some medications that I buy at the store to administer it to a patient of hers alone.
A scientist, physician and professor of prestigious Christian man sensitive to the pain and anguish of the sick. His life inspires all laymen, who can see in this man a model of holiness in the world today. Reach for the sky to fulfill the will of God, as a lay doctor. The Creator would like anniversary gift, graduation from the sky to heal physical and spiritual ailments of their patients.
For different reasons the process beginning thirty years after his death and since 1949 officially opens the way for her canonization. On January 16, 1986, John Paul II declared Venerable. We are now waiting for the verification of a miracle to advance his beatification. However, hospitals and houses of the devotees not without its stamps.
His reputation for holiness is well known in Venezuela and several countries, especially in Latin America. National and international pilgrimages to his hometown are numerous.
Currently his remains rest in Caracas, at Our Lady of Candelaria Parish Church, where hundreds of worshipers daily placed flowers, candles and prayers especially in his grave
